World Market Center, Las Vegas, announced that the September Las Vegas Market will be the international hub once more for buyers to experience the hottest trends from around the world.  The number of International manufacturers has nearly doubled since the last Las Vegas Market with companies representing such countries from Italy, Latin America, India, Vietnam, Canada, Australia and the UK set to inspire visitors with their wealth of ideas.  Designers in Europe and Latin America have looked into their past and found inspiration for today’s products whilst pushing the boundaries of contemporary design, September 14 – 17 at World Market Center Las Vegas.

In an effort to bring international companies with a wide selection of products from around the world to Las Vegas, World Market Center continues to focus on creating strategic alliances with producers from around the globe.  Italiano Classico in Building C-312 follows on from the hugely successful Design Italiano exhibit at last Summer’s Las Vegas Market.  Brought to Las Vegas by Fiera Milano, City of Meda, Regione Lombardia and the Monza-Brianza Chamber of Commerce and Monza-Brianza Promotions, Italiano Classico- made in Meda will showcase 50 pieces from up to 20 top Italian designers and producers, including Berto Salotti, Medea and Baccega.  Each of the producers is based in Meda, a small town near Milan which is recognized worldwide as a furniture capital, full of history, quality and culture in furniture making. Italiano Classico will showcase classic and period furniture including armchairs, tables and consoles utilising a profound range of styles, materials and furniture-making methods.  A Rampassi button-tufted armchair from Colombostile was included at World Market Center’s exclusive Fall Product Preview held recently in New York.

“We are very proud to introduce these producers to one of the world’s most fashionable shows”   said Fabio Mariani and Alberto Busnelli, art directors and organizers of this exhibit. “It’s a great opportunity for us to show our furniture and for the American and international attendees to see and to touch beautiful classical-style Italian furniture.”

Tim Branscome, Vice President International says Las Vegas Market is the ideal stage from which many of these internationally reputed companies can talk to the entire US marketplace.  “Two Mexican organizations each bringing a group of companies from the state of Jalisco and the area of San Miguel de Allende for example, Canaco Tlaquepaque and COFOCE are with us again with a whole selection of the hottest Latin American trends.  The Brazilian furniture industry returns to Las Vegas Market in force, with permanent showrooms in Building B.  Buyers expect to be inspired and impressed in Las Vegas and they’ll certainly have that wish granted with the fabulous Italiano Classico exhibit in Building C.”

A Salute to Mexico

In honor of Mexican Independence Day (September 16), Las Vegas Market will present a celebration one day early, on Tuesday, September 15. “Saludos México,” is an evening reception that will feature Mayan and Aztec dancers performing traditional dances. Contemporary art from noted Mexican artists will showcased during the festivities.  The event is planned in conjunction with the Mexican Society of Interior Designers.

Tim Branscome Vice President International continued, “Mexico has always been an important supplier of furnishings and design to the USA, and it is evident that that importance grows. Our roster of Mexican exhibitors grows every year with this market offering nearly twice as many companies as last market. We are very proud of our relationship with Mexico and that we have been selected as the North American platform for showcasing their products and designs.”

Containing the focus on Mexico, Las Vegas Market will present two seminars in Español (with simultaneous English translation). The first will address sustainability issues and the greening of the furniture industry. The second will be about designs and trends in home furnishings. The Las Vegas Market includes roughly 50 Mexican exhibitors and attracts hundreds of retailers and interior designers from Mexico.

Canadian exhibitors like G Romano and Torre & Tagus will be showing their latest designs and Rajdhani Craft of India will have a showroom in Las Vegas for the first time featuring a broad selection of case good merchandise. The arts and crafts of India are known from the ancient time for intricate workmanship, exquisite nature and exclusive designs.  The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts of India (EPCH) will feature over 25 companies at September Las Vegas Market.  The Vietnam pavilion returns and has expanded yet again in Building C including even more furniture suppliers, demonstrating why Vietnam has quickly risen to the quality furniture powerhouse it is today.

Atlanta-based furniture dealer Paulo Osorio of Pampa Export represents various high-end contemporary indoor and outdoor furniture makers from Brazil. The designs in that country, he says, tend to follow the Italian style. Brazilian factories tweak their dimensions to fit American requirements for size and taste. Some manufacturers also tone down their designs because they are “too contemporary” for American tastes, Osorio says. Still, designers can find both these “world” designs and those for the U.S. market under the Brazilian banner at the World Market Center.

“We see three or four different niches” for our furniture, Osorio says. Designers in Miami, New York and Los Angeles especially like the hyper-contemporary furniture. Large-volume buyers for mass-market furniture stores prefer the re-designed contemporary styles, finding them more suitable for general American tastes.

South America’s furniture makers also look to their own Colonial past for designs. Nis Raphael imports furniture from Peru for New World Trading. These pieces are handmade of wood reclaimed from old doors and buildings dating from the country’s Colonial era. Raphael notes that sizes have been increased to meet American needs.

The chairs are trimmed with hand-tooled leather, on which artists have hammered out flowers and other patterns. Each piece shows a slight imperfection, signifying that these are handmade, not machine-made, items. “Tooling is an art,” Raphael explains.

A sampling of some of the globally recognized international companies that will showcase products at September Las Vegas Market include Venecia Muebles,  TAM-EX and Pol Rey Furniture from Mexico, Bronze Age/Harmony by Design from Spain and Nathan International from Hong Kong.
