Miles Talbott Furniture announced its partnership with Barbara Smith to introduce her custom upholstery collection, B. Smith Home. Barbara, or B. as she is affectionately known, is a pioneer in the lifestyle category whose talents and expertise span a wide range of specialties. B. Smith is a fashion model turned lifestyle expert, television personality and restaurateur. An African-American who is at the forefront of a trans-cultural movement, she possesses a unique ability to merge cultures through a shared appreciation for style. The B. Smith Home Collection will feature over twenty pieces within six style families and approximately twenty new fabric patterns.
The B. Smith look embodies contemporary design inspired by transcultural influences. “That look,” Smith simply states, “is „Afrasian‟ and it fills a void in the market. It‟s about mixing the best in each culture to create something beautiful.” Believing in an accessible approach to design, B. Smith merges eclectic style with ethnic influences that draw their inspiration from her world travels as a model, author, and business professional.
The unique frames in the B. Smith Home Collection feature clean, crisp lines with modern interpretations. Rich colors and a multitude of textures and dramatic patterns lend a global influence to the fabrics selected. “The fabrics are a blend of Asian, African and Caribbean influences,” stated Smith. “When paired with the sophisticated lines in the frames the result is quite dramatic.”
“Our customer base has been asking for more transitional styles and her designs are stunning,” said George Jordan, Miles Talbott President. “The creativity and energy that B. brings to our team is very exciting. Her positive impact will be immediately felt by our extended retail family.”
Smith‟s furniture collection for Miles Talbott is a natural evolution of her lifestyle brand. Her brand includes the successful B. Smith with Style® Home Collection sold exclusively for the past eight years at Bed Bath & Beyond® stores nationwide. Smith also extends her lifestyle expertise as the owner of three successful B. Smith restaurants in New York City,Washington D.C. and Sag Harbor. Her flagship New York restaurant is celebrating its 24th year in business, while her restaurant in Washington, D.C., recently marked its 15th anniversary, Smith‟s Sag Harbor restaurant celebrated its 12th season in May of this year. B. Smith is also the author of two tabletop books on entertaining with a third Southern style cookbook coming out this November. She also recently launched a collection of interactive DVD cookbooks, all intimate reflections of her lifestyle authority and expertise in style. Miles Talbott will introduce the B. Smith Home Collection at the October High Point Furniture Market. The Collection targets designers, better department and furniture specialty stores.
