The furniture industry recently said goodbye to one of its icons, Joseph (Joe) Farrell Culp, who passed away Sept 15, 2009, from cancer. Joe’s life was devoted to the betterment of the furniture industry, both in Canada and the U.S., and he left an indelible impression on all who knew him.
Starting with his own furniture store in Edmonton and then as Furniture Buyer with the Hudson’s Bay Co in both Winnipeg and Toronto, Joe also served as Vice President of Bauhaus for many years, later a Senior Corporate consultant to some major Canadian Furniture Companies.
With his wife, Cathy, they returned to her US roots, heading up Carter Culp and Associates working for Dorel Industries in Detroit then Chicago, working directly for the past 15 years with the Sears, Kmart, and Meijer accounts.
Joe is survived by his wife Cathy and their daughter Lauren, as well as his nine other beautiful children.
Joe will be remembered for his zest for life in everything he did. At home, he was an entertainer and an accomplished cook with a great love of jazz and the company of friends. He was happiest on the golf course when he was with friends and family.
He will be sorely missed by his family and a legion of friends throughout the furniture industry worldwide.
