Bernie & Phyl's Furniture Completes Major Expansion of Westboro Superstore

Bernie & Phyl's Furniture, one of the fastest growing furniture retailers in the country, has announced the completion of a major expansion project at its Westboro, Massachusetts superstore. The company has added 13,000 square feet of space - 9,500 square feet in the showroom and 3,500 square feet in the clearance section - to its already 42,000 square foot superstore. The Westboro store, which the company opened in 1997, has been reconfigured to include a new home entertainment area, bedding gallery, Berkline gallery, accent chair gallery, and more focused youth bedroom area. More sales terminals have been installed on the floor and the customer service counter has doubled in size to accommodate more staff and a dedicated finance area. The store's interior has also been given a fresh look with new paint, crown moldings, and redesigned furniture displays. Outside, a new stone wall, landscaping, awnings, and exterior lighting round out the renovations. "Our Westboro superstore is one of our most successful locations and we wanted to make it even better and easier for our customers to shop there. The expansion allows us to create specialized galleries and focus on key product categories that are core growth areas for us right now," said Bernie Rubin, president and co-founder of Bernie & Phyl's Furniture. "Of course, most important is how incredibly beautiful the store looks and feels to customers, and that we now have more space for lots of great new accessories and furniture." The addition of the new bedding area in the expanded Westboro store coincides with Bernie & Phyl's store-wide launch of a new, guaranteed next-day delivery service on any Sealy Posturepedic bedding purchase. The next-day delivery program, which the retailer started in January 2001, is already resulting in significant increases in bedding sales. Bernie & Phyl's Furniture is the largest independent furniture retailer in Massachusetts. Based in Norton, MA, the company has five Massachusetts stores in Cambridge, Everett, Saugus (50,000 square foot superstore), Westboro (55,000 square foot superstore), and Weymouth. The company had $45.5 million in sales in 1999 and currently employs over 200 people.
