Theodore Alexander announced that it will introduce a new collection at the April High Point Market based on Althorp’s position as one of England’s most celebrated country houses. The new line, named “The Falconry” consists of 45 items, is made from English oak in two finishes and brings a new dimension to the success of the Althorp Living History brand. The collection appeals to today’s more casual lifestyle with its rustic and casual “country” look.
“The furniture embodies the vast country estate that surrounds Althorp which is filled with 400-year-old oaks and grazing sheep” says Anthony Cox, senior vice president of product development, “A natural contrast to previous introductions that were more formal”. Althorp is famed for its natural abundance of ‘Veteran Oaks’, commemorative trees planted across the centuries that define the parkland surrounding the main house.
The collection takes it name from the 17th century building on the estate known as the Falconry, originally built by Robert, first Lord Spencer and at the time known as the Hawking Tower. The balcony on the second floor was used to watch feats of falconry by guests at Althorp. Charles, Ninth Earl Spencer notes, “The Falconry has delighted generations of my family with its charms.” Architecturally unique, the Falconry was built in 1611 from local Northamptonshire ironstone, which gives it a distinctive warm hue.
The collection includes an intricate birdcage based on the Falconry building and the Union Flag Chest, both of which may be ordered in either the “Hedgerow” or “Cottage” finish. The collection’s finishes and aged look are reminiscent of the many generations of loving wear that this furniture would have had in the farmhouses and village homes that make up the Althorp Estate.
The Falconry Collection will be on display to Theodore Alexander retailers during the High Point Market held 17-22 April, in the company’s Althorp Living History showroom located at 201 Steele Street in High Point.
