Furnitureland South, the World’s Largest Home Furnishings Showplace, announced its participation in the April 11, 2010 episode of ABC’s hit show Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Filmed in Loris, South Carolina near Myrtle Beach, the episode featured the young Suggs family.
Amanda and Derrick Suggs had just begun a family of their own when they took in Amanda’s six brothers and sisters to prevent them from being placed in foster care. Husband and police officer, Derrick, inherited the home built by his grandfather in 1953. With a leaking roof, rotting foundation, exposed electrical wiring and cracked asbestos siding, the house was barely livable. The Extreme Makeover team, along with racing legend, Jeff Gordon, several WWE wrestling stars and more than 2,000 local volunteers, built a new, safer home for the Suggs family in just seven days.
Furnitureland South was excited to receive a call from the show, and immediately sprung into action. Two Extreme Makeover designers traveled to the Furnitureland South campus and, with the help of expert Sales & Design Consultant, Stephanie Portaro, they chose all of the furniture and accessories needed for the home in one afternoon. Next, Furnitureland South’s capable distribution and delivery teams went to work and, two days later, the Furnitureland South truck pulled up to help the Extreme Makeover crew complete the newly built home on time.
Vice President and Furnitureland South owner, Stella Harris says she was glad for the opportunity to get involved. "We're doing this because it's part of our philosophy as a company. We like to help others. We've been very blessed to have the business that we do in these tough economic times, and we feel very blessed to be a part of this.”
The Suggs family’s new, rustic-urban farmhouse features furnishings from several of Furnitureland South’s manufacturing partners, including Conrad Grebel, Huntington House Furniture, Lexington Home Brands, Martha Stewart by Bernhardt, Robin Bruce, and LaneVenture Excursions.
The Emmy award winning reality program “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” now in its 7th season, is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It’s executive-produced by Anthony Dominici.
