American Furniture Hall of Fame Foundation Elects New Officers & Directors

The Board of Directors of the American Furniture Hall of Fame Foundation Inc. has elected new officers and board members, as well as appointed new members to the Hall of Fame Legacy Board. 

Elected as Board president are Jeff Cook, Broyhill Furniture Industries; as first vice president, Kurt L. Darrow, La-Z-Boy, Inc; as second vice president, Randy Ford, Leggett & Platt; and as secretary-treasurer, George Cartledge, III, Grand Home Furnishings. 

New directors serving a three-year term are Bill Markowitz, The Veneman Group and Doug Wolf, Wolf Furniture. 

"The Hall of Fame is at a pivotal point.  We must preserve our histories and the stories of our legends now because they are about to slip away from us forever," Cook says.  "We are in the process of publishing 40 oral histories for sale to the industry, launching a call for memorabilia before it ends up in landfills, conducting a campaign to encourage companies to preserve their own histories, and preparing to professionally compile a history of the industry.  And, that’s just for starters."  
 

Re-elected members serving an additional three-year term are Alex Bernhardt, Jr., Bernhardt Furniture Company; Don Dreher, DMI Furniture Inc.; and Jerry Epperson, Mann, Armistead & Epperson, Ltd. 

New Legacy Board members are: John Bassett, III, Vaughan-Bassett Furniture Co.; and Sonny Roseman, CR Laine Furniture Company. 

The American Furniture Hall of Fame Foundation is open to all home furnishings industry companies, organizations and individuals that do business in the United States.  Membership includes eligibility to vote for inductees into the American Furniture Hall of Fame, and the opportunity to help preserve the history and heritage of the industry. Memberships are $250 at the individual level, and $500 and $1,000 at the corporate level.  All contributions are tax deductible.  Checks should be made payable to American Furniture Hall of Fame Foundation Inc. and sent to 202 Neal Place, High Point, N.C.  27261. 

The 2010 inductees – individuals who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of the U.S. furniture industry – will be honored with the American furniture industry’s highest honor at a gala banquet on October 17 at the High Point Market.  For information, call 336.882.5900.
