Art Van Furniture, Michigan's largest furniture retailer, announced today it will open two new stores in Northern Michigan, in the cities of Petoskey and Onaway. This brings the total to 33 locations in Michigan, and means no one in the Lower Peninsula will have to drive more than an hour to visit an Art Van Store.
"At a time when many businesses are closing their doors, we're growing and adding jobs to the state's economy," said Gary Van Elslander, president of Art Van Furniture.
Art Van Furniture recently acquired the real estate and assets of Brewbaker's Furniture, another family-owned business that had been in business for more than 50 years. Art Van Furniture intends to retain Brewbaker's 80-plus employees, including two sons who helped manage Brewbaker's Petoskey and Onaway stores.
"It's one Michigan family business shaking hands with another Michigan family business," said Art Van Elslander, Founder and Chairman of Art Van Furniture, "and the people of Northern Michigan will enjoy the same quality, selection and value of Art Van Furniture that the rest of state enjoys."
Art Van Furniture will hold a grand opening of the two stores in October.
