Highlands introduction from Fine Furniture Design
Fine Furniture Design announced the introduction of three major collections of bedroom, dining room, occasional and entertainment furniture at the October High Point Market in traditional, transitional and relaxed casual styles.
The collections - Highlands, Proximity and Summer Home - will be shown in the company's new 21,000-square-foot showroom in Space 800 of the Wrenn wing of the International Home Furnishings Center.
"These three new collections are loaded with style, function and value," said Jim Adams, vice president of product design and marketing for Fine Furniture Design. "We've positioned them in our starting price points so they're very affordable, but designed them with extra details and flair."
Highlands is a traditionally styled collection inspired by antiques from 17th-century Scotland. The collection features select hardwood solids and rustic cherry veneers combined with white ash and olive ash burl accents and ebony and maple inlays.
The finish, called Inverness, employs a subtle glazing on the moldings of many pieces that adds depth and character.
Custom-designed hardware with a hand-rubbed finish completes the look.
Signature pieces include a hexagonal dining table with self-storing butterfly leaf that seats eight; an elegant poster bed; and an entertainment console featuring wood, glass or speaker cloth on the doors.
Dining chairs feature a combination of faux leather and washed tapestry. The collection also includes several coordinating accent chairs from the Protégé line as well as a sofa.
"This collection has a lot of character, but we've scaled it down slightly so it's not overpowering," said Adams. "The beds are distinctive but not massive. And the finish is very appealing."
Fine Furniture Design's second introduction, Proximity, is a soft transitional design in walnut solids and matched, quartered walnut veneers with a polished Walnut finish. Select pieces, including a display cabinet, feature accent finishes of Silver Leaf and Taupe on their illuminated interiors.
The hardware used on the pieces is reminiscent of Art Deco jewelry, with a rich, metallic Platinum finish.
Dining chairs are covered in an elegant, linen-like neutral fabric with nailhead accents. Coordinating accent chairs from the Protégé line and a sofa also are available.
Signature pieces include an oval bachelor's chest with black granite insert; Silver Leaf-finished accessory table and mirror; an upholstered bed with Platinum-finished nailhead trim; and an entertainment console with a serpentine front and glass or wood doors.
"Proximity uses complex shaping to create a soft, transitional feeling," said Adams. "It fits in well with the relaxed trends of today's interiors. It's a very high-end look at an accessible price."
Summer Home, Fine Furniture Design's third new collection, represents the company's biggest introduction ever at 60 pieces. Summer Home blends lodge, coastal and cottage themes to make an eclectic, casual traditional statement that is easy to mix and match.
Crafted in hardwood solids and maple veneers, Summer Home features four distinct but complimentary finishes: Lodge, a lightly distressed, medium-brown wood tone; Shell, an off-white; Seagrass green; and Sky blue. The painted finishes feature a special, lightly textured treatment that provides added dimension.
All of the dining, occasional and entertainment pieces and mirrors will be available in all four finishes. Bedroom pieces will be available in Lodge and Shell. All of the hardware is finished to match the case colors.
"The Lodge finish takes the collection in a more traditional direction, while the Shell tone is a more carefree, relaxed look," said Adams.
He added that the wood finish combines easily with any of the painted pieces, and the paints are all compatible as well. "This approach provides an attractive way to add a spot of color in a room or retail display."
Signature pieces include a bowed front display cabinet with reversible back panels, a secret drawer and seeded glass; a lodge-style poster bed with a vintage planked board treatment on the headboard; and an adjustable high-low square dining table.
"We're taking some key pieces from our existing upholstery line-up and restyling them with new features and a variety of fresh fabrics," said Adams.
These new upholstered features will be available in Proximity and Summer Home finishes exclusively on frames shown at market.
In addition to its three new wood collections, Fine Furniture Design is also adding more than a dozen upholstered pieces to its Protégé and Fine Upholstery lines. Protégé chairs and ottomans, in casual, transitional and formal styles coordinate with five new fine upholstery sofas.
The company also is re-merchandising its fabric selection, adding more than a dozen new body cloths and six new fabric packages. A new fabric display area has been created in the center of the showroom, allowing retailers to work conveniently to create just the right look for their stores.
The company will be putting a brighter spotlight on its two seating lines this market. For the first time, Protégé will be shown in its entirety, and the line also will be featured in a front window display and entrance hall signage.
"Since entering the upholstery category in 2007, we've now grown that part of our program to 50 different frames and 40 finishes," said Adams. "It's a much more complete offering now."
Fine Furniture Design will hold a grand-opening celebration during market on Oct. 16 beginning at 5:30 p.m. Members of the press are cordially invited to attend.
