Scott Thomas Furniture reported that the turmoil in Egypt has not interrupted production at the Scott Thomas Furniture manufacturing facility there.
The company has enjoyed a prosperous start to the new year, with year-to-year orders up 300%, according to Scott Hamed, president.
Scott Thomas Furniture has been manufacturing furniture in Egypt since 1992. The firm’s factory is securely located outside Alexandria in a Private Free Zone and benefits from special security and considerations to manufacturers for importing and exporting within the zone. Alexandria is considered Egypt’s major port on the Mediterranean Sea.
Hamed just returned from Alexandria , following a regularly scheduled visit to the facility. “I was right there on the streets,” Hamed said. “It was very exciting to witness this historical moment.”
Even during the political transition, employees of the factory are continuing to work regular hours.
”Egyptians work hard and their families depend upon a weekly paycheck,” Hamed said. While production continues on schedule, the company anticipates some shipping delays as the political disruption is resolved, Hamed said. “We hope to resume regular shipping schedules within a short time period.”
Scott (Thomas) Hamed is a native and resident of Ohio, where Scott Thomas Furniture maintains its marketing headquarters. Scott Thomas Furniture manufactures fine traditional and modern wood furniture, hand-built outside Alexandria, Egypt, using exotic woods and materials. The company’s furniture is sold to the trade worldwide, and displayed at High Point Market where the firm is preparing a new licensed collection rollout for October 2011.
