Louis Massood
Louis Massood has been named executive vice president, sales for Furniture Transport Group.
The move is part of a major reorganization underway at Furniture Transport Group, led by president and chief executive officer, Steven Lusty, who assumed his new role early last month.
“Louis Massood played an integral part over the years in the growth of MGM Transport Corp., and I believe his considerable knowledge and unerring dedication to our customers will be a key driver in growing our business at Furniture Transport Group as we move forward,” Lusty says.
Massood was formerly executive vice president of sales for MGM Transport. In his new role, he will lead the sales effort for the entire company, which was formed by the merger of MGM Transport Corp., Caldwell Freight Lines, Foothills Trucking Co. and Lance Transport—creating one powerful, national transportation firm. He was initially hired as a night dispatcher for MGM Transport Corp. in 1989.
“Over the years, I’ve seen the company grow from a family-owned, regional trucking company for the furniture industry into a national concern offering the type of value-added services that a smaller regional company could not possibly provide,” Massood relates.
Among those services, Massood says, are warehousing, truckload and consolidation services, expedited LTL service, as well as brokerage and nationwide home delivery. “As we move forward, we will be providing pick-up service, not only domestically, but internationally from Asia, where so much of the furniture is manufactured today. We will then deliver it anywhere within the 48 contiguous states on one of our lines,” he notes.
Massood is excited about both his new role and the direction the company is heading. “There is a new energy at Furniture Transport Group that everyone here can feel, and it’s clear that we are entering a new and exciting era. The changes we are putting in place are already making it easier for customers to do business with Furniture Transport Group. In the short time he’s been on board, Steven Lusty has eliminated layers throughout the organization, and the confusion that resulted from that. In fact, we’ve already reduced delivery times by one to two days, and we’re working on reducing handling and damages in an effort to get products to the ultimate customer faster than we ever have. The bottom line is that we’re not out just to be the biggest; we’re out to be the best, and I’m proud to be a part of that.”
