Phyllis Macay
Phyllis Macay, 59, vice president of Design Sales Training and Display, and a partner in the Profitability Consulting Group, was slain by Somali pirates as part of the hijacking of the yacht Quest off of the coast of Somalia.
Phyllis, an industry veteran and frequent speaker at markets and industry conventions, was a great contributor and highly valued member of the Profitability family.
Phyllis, three years ago had decided to take a sabbatical from the industry, and with her long time friend, Bob Riggle, had decided to take a world sailing tour. She originally planned to be gone two years, but with the enjoyment and excitement of the tour, she and Bob decided to extend it.
Phyllis and Bob and decided to leave the sailing group that they were traveling with and join fellow sailors Scott and Jean Adam on their yacht called the Quest. They decided to leave the group and chart a separate course from Mumbai to Oman. It is there that they were attacked and the yacht hijacked by Somali pirates. Phyllis, Bob, Scott and Jean were slain while negotiations were being held between the Pirates and US Naval personnel.
“Phyllis was the longest reigning member of the Profitability family and a guiding force due to her honest and outspoken way of expressing herself and keeping all of us focused,” said John Egger CEO of the Profitability Consulting Group. She was a valued asset to the furniture and design community and made major contributions to her clients in all aspects of the home furnishings industry.
