Stanley Furniture Company, a leader in the design and manufacture of premium residential wood furnishings, reported that it will introduce two new styles to the Classic Portfolio at High Point Market this Spring. British Colonial and Bungalow will join the popular European Cottage, Louis Philippe and Transitional styles to round out the offering.
“As is the case with so many of Stanley Furniture’s collections, the beauty and the value of the Classic Portfolio can be directly attributed to its design details and superb finishes,” said Stanley Furniture VP of Product Management, Adam Tilley.
The Classic Portfolio features essential looks and time-honored designs, produced in a more sophisticated way through finish and scaling. Each wood finish is fully rubbed with English paste wax and subtly aged to create a patina that is soft to the touch. All cases are a luxurious 10 percent deeper than typical design standards. Elements of the collection incorporate fine materials, architectural moldings, and finessed carving. Even the hardware, when studied up close, reveals pleasant surprises like subtle aging, or bead details that are hidden in concentric circles. All the hardware was designed to feel weighty to the touch, adding gravitas to each piece.
“The experience of owning fine furniture is sensory,” said Tilley. “Not only does fine furniture feel soft and luxurious to the touch, it has to be graceful. Your eyes should melt into the layers of finishes that glow in the light. These patterns were designed to envelope you in the total experience of finer furniture. The closer you study a piece, the more it should reward you.”
About British Colonial: British Colonial mixes classic lines with exotic details that harken a bygone era in the Caribbean, West Indies, Pacific Rim and Africa. Each item is offered in two finishes: Dark Shell, that has a mottled tortoise appearance, and Caribe that features a lighter, burnished honey coloring. The furniture features details like crackling, fine gesso applications and hand-rubbing with English paste wax on all sides of the furniture, which enhances both softness and clarity. Carving details, like scrolls, reeded posts in an hourglass shape, generous molding, fully-turned spool feet, and fine beading are brought together in perfect harmony. A signature element of the collection is the subtle hint of exotic vanilla that wafts from scented lacquer inside the drawers. “Hints of flavor are often found in the premium furniture segment,” said Tilley. With British Colonial you get pieces with the presence to ground a room; elegant finishes with old-world feel; and subtle hints of vanilla to whisk you to the tropics, all at an attainable, real world price point.”
About Bungalow: Bungalow offers a casual cottage style with a farmhouse vibe. “This group is not country,” said Tilley. “Think of Bungalow as eclectic blend of American antiques reinterpreted for today.” The collection is noted for its Straw finish on beautiful, clear cherry wood, mildly aged with subtle bead details that are most appreciated up close. The signature mantle bed with its high-lo planked headboard makes a statement in any room. Distressed, saddle-colored leather incorporated into the panel bed is detailed with brass nail heads. Raised drawer fronts on the top drawers of the dresser are a notable design element. Appealing to the senses, cedar drawers imbue the room with their fresh fragrance. The custom-designed hardware has an industrial personality similar to a vintage post office, with hand-hammered indentions, tumbled over time. “The American Bungalow is not necessarily Arts and Crafts,” said Tilley. “This collection refreshes the look for today’s homes, adding sophistication and an elegance that is often missing from the casual style.”
