Gorman’s Home Furnishings and Interior Design hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for its newly opened GrandRapids location on Thursday, April 28 at 5:30 p.m. The store is located in the space formerly occupied by Israels Home Furnishings at 2320 28th St. SE.
Guests at the informal celebration included Grand Rapids City Council members and members of the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce, as well as Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell.
“Opening our new location in Grand Rapids has allowed us to expand our business across Michigan and provide more jobs for the people of the great Furniture City,” said President Tom Lias. “We are looking forward to celebrating the official opening of our fifth store with the members of the Grand Rapids community and representatives of this great city.”
“We have truly appreciated the support and good wishes that we have received from everyone from former Grand Rapids customers and suppliers throughout the world,” added CEO Bernie Moray.
As a proud Michigan-based company, Gorman’s has been known as the original Michigan style leader in home furnishings throughout the 70-year history of the company. The ability Gorman’s has demonstrated to not only survive during difficult economic circumstances, but also thrive in one, is a true testimony to the kind of quality product Gorman’s offers.
The 55,000 square foot space houses fine furniture and accessories for every room of the home at a range of price points from sought-after names such as Better Homes and Gardens, Henredon, Hooker Furniture, Lexington, Natuzzi, Paula Deen, Ralph Lauren, Stanley, Hancock & Moore and Universal.
Gorman’s exited the Grand Rapids market in 1996 after 15 years, when the building the company occupied was sold during lease negotiations. Coincidentally, this is the original space in which Gorman’s has reopened.
