The South Carolina Furniture Club, a club within the Virginia/Carolinas Home Furnishings Reps Association’s chapter of IHFRA, held its 8th Annual Spring Briefcase Open at the Mid-Carolina Club in Prosperity, SC on May 26, 2011.
"This event," noted Kathy Parks, IHFRA's Executive Director, "like their annual October golf outing (The Les Pugh Breifcase Open, in Santee, SC) has become a great way for retailers and reps to develop relationships outside of the furniture store. It is also a venue to share stories on what has been working, or not working locally for the reps dealers, providing a gateway for helping solve some issues once off the course.
This year’s tournament winners were:
- 1st Place – Dan Anderson, Hank Butler, Ray Crozier, & Bill Dixon
- 2nd Place – Preston Gilmer, Don Craig, Doug Hodgin, & Gerry Black
- 3rd Place – Brad Bowman, Rick Darnell, Keith Etherington, & Al Tyler
"These events," continued Ms. Parks, "could not take place without the support of industry sponsors and participants, such as Caldwell Freight, Shelba D. Johnson Trucking, Murrow’s Transfer, Hoyt-Highfill & Associates, Wahlquist Management, & Sunbelt Furniture Express. They are an important part of the industry as well as the organizations they support.
"Not only are these annual golf outings a way to network and socialize, but they are also a great way to raise funds for those in need." The South Carolina Furniture Club gave proceeds from this tournament to: Camp Kemo Summer Camp for Children with Cancer, the Salvation Army, the Palmetto Place Children’s Emergency Center, The Cooperative Ministry, the Oliver Gospel Mission, the Special Olympics, The Women’s Shelter, & Heckleburg Helping Hands (AL Tornado Relief).
