Talsma Furniture's location in Holland Michigan, announced that it has partnered with LED lamp manufacturer, MSi, to be the one of the first stores in the area to implement the use of LED accent lighting on a wide scale.
The company is replacing more than 700 traditional incandescent light bulbs in the Holland store with new LED bulbs that use about 73 percent less energy.
The more efficient LED lights produce very little heat and within hours of installation, store employees had noticed a drop in the store’s temperature.
Talsma's continues to make major strides in its ongoing drive to reduce energy consumption and waste as part of the company's comprehensive program of sustainability and operating efficiency.
"We have been "green" before we knew what "green" was." Said store manager Jessica Smith. "Talsma Furniture has been recycling all of it's furniture packaging materials for over 60 years. We also print our circulars on newsprint as apposed to the slick and shiny ads that have more chemicals and are hard to recycle. This is just another step in the right direction for our company. "
Total energy savings are estimated at about 5,054 megawatts per hour every year, the equivalent of planting more than 1253 trees. The LED lamps have an expected life of 10 years (compared with less than one year for traditional bulbs), reducing landfill disposal.
