Plans for Wright's Clothing Building now include hotel suites as well as showroom space. It will be available for occupancy for the April 2001 International Home Furnishings Market. Called The Wright Place, the six-story building at 126 N. Main St. will feature hotel suites as the crown jewels of High Point's 96-year-old historic treasure. The first two floors will be marketed for 20,000 sq. ft. of Class A Market showrooms. The upper four floors will be converted to suites for overnight or long-term stays, with an innkeeper who resides on the premises. "We're banking on downtown revitalization," says Glenn Hedgecock, the building designer working in a joint venture with building owner Phyllis Wright . "We believe the timing is right." "Beside Market, there are vital Pre-Markets, the Showtime fabric fair, and Showplace has booked its first temporary event with one of the largest trade show promoters in the country." says Randy Harris, vice president for The Skeen Group Commercial and Industrial Real Estate, a High Point-based firm. "The goal of the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau is to book at least one sizable convention and trade show per month in downtown High Point. A 20-member sports marketing committee has been named to attract additional sporting events." Since the $2 million renovation was announced one year ago, the demolition work has been underway while plans and designs have been finalized. The store front next to it has been removed to make way for a coveted downtown parking area. Hedgecock says the plans call for major upfitting and taking the building back to its original state. "We will restore the original elegance and beauty of the architectural details while upfitting it with today's amenities," Hedgecock says. "If you need to be downtown, we intend it to be the right place to stay and do business."
