Sealy Makes a Wish Come True - Olympic Supplier Sends Local Child to Sydney Games and Partners with 98.7 The Point to Support Local Charities

When Sealy announced that it had signed on as an Official Supplier of the 2000, 2002 and 2004 U.S. Olympic Teams and the Salt Lake Games, the company didn't know what kind of impact they would have on the local community and on the life of one special young woman. Sealy, Inc., the largest bedding manufacturer in North America, announced that it will donate a trip to the upcoming Sydney Olympic Games to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Central and Western North Carolina. This Olympic trip is a dream come true for Ashley Brewer of Hickory, NC. Ashley, 18, will attend the Olympics Games in Sydney with her mother, Mary "Ginger" Brewer. Ashley played Goal Keeper for her high school soccer team and is presently enjoying her freshmen year at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Last week, she completed the final radiation treatment in her fight to conquer Hodgkin's Disease, a type of lymphatic cancer. "We are extremely happy that our relationship with the U.S. Olympics allows us to give something back to the local community," said Ron Jones, chairman/CEO of Sealy, Inc. "It is a unique opportunity that allows us to help a young person turn his or her dreams into reality. Sealy is honored to help make this special trip possible for Ashley Brewer." On the heels of the Sealy donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, they are partnering with the new 98.7 THE POINT to raise money for other local charities. On Wednesday, September 13th, 98.7 THE POINT put their very own DJ Matty atop the 98.7 THE POINT billboard on Interstate-40 in Greensboro. He aired his show live from a Sealy mattress, and he did not come down until listeners donated $15,000 for the United Way of Greater High Point. Sealy, Inc., a long-time supporter of the United Way of Greater High Point, was awarded the 1999 Spirit of North Carolina Award for their outstanding local United Way campaign.
