Here are a few design guidelines to energize your home with Feng Shui:
Feng Shui, (pronounced foong shway), was first developed in China about 3,000 years ago. Concerned with maximizing positive energy and harmony in the house, the system of feng shui determines the position of rooms within the house, which colors to use for decorating, the choice of furnishings, and many other factors, all with the aim of ensuring success and well-being.
For the Sitting Room:
The busiest time to use the sitting room is at night, when it is often cold. Use colors of warmth and with gathering influence such as yellows, highlights of red, orange or cream to balance the room.
Position your chairs so that they face the door rather than have their backs to it. If there is a large space behind a chair, put a screen or bookshelf there to prevent feelings of vulnerability.
It is important to have at least one big plant to absorb electrical pollution and freshen the atmosphere.
The power seat of the room should have the best view of the door and window and should be occupied by an adult or parent. If you allow a child sit here, he or she can become disobedient.
A fish tank or light should be positioned in the corner of the room to bring in peace.
Keep all shelving as low as possible to prevent the feeling that everything is tumbling down on you.
For the Bedroom:
Don't have pictures of your children in your bedroom. Anywhere else in the house is fine, but your bedroom should remind you that you are also a couple, or just you, again.
The door should open into the room, and it should open fully. Otherwise, you will not be getting all the energy relating to your relationships that you should be receiving.
The ceiling is best painted a paler color than the walls. Dark ceilings shrink your energy field and can create stagnant energy.
For the Dining Room:
Good colors for the dining room are pink, peach, green or yellow.
Fill the walls with pictures of people partying and dining – generally having a happy time where eating is involved.
Mirrors have a wonderful influence in the dining room so use many as you like. They bounce energy backward and forward, which will result in stimulating conversation.
Place your quietest guests so that they are facing the main entrance into the dining room. This is known as the power seat and it will make them feel more confident and chatty.
