La-Z-Boy, the nation’s leading manufacturer of upholstered furniture, recently recognized three of its manufacturing facilities for their excellence in achieving and maintaining high safety standards during the 2001 fiscal year. The "Exceptional Safety Performance" awards were presented in Joplin, Mo., at a dinner hosted by La-Z-Boy Residential.
"Safety is a primary priority for La-Z-Boy and the responsibility of each of our employees," said Kurt L. Darrow, president of La-Z-Boy Residential. "These awards represent the company’s commitment to safety as part of our vision and values, and recognize the hard work of every employee in these three plants."
The awards presentation, which is a new program for the company, focused on safety as one of the company’s critical core values. The top-performing manufacturing facilities were identified based on criteria established by La-Z-Boy, including industry and illness rates, and hours worked without a lost time incident. Honored this year were: La-Z-Boy East, based in Florence S.C., La-Z-Boy Lincolnton, based in Lincolnton, N.C., and La-Z-Boy West based in Redlands, Calif. Honorable mention went to La-Z-Boy Tennessee, located in Dayton Tenn., for achieving 3,778,092 hours to date without a lost time injury.
The company intends to hold similar award presentations next year, recognizing excellence based on quality of work and productivity.
