The American Furniture Manufacturers Association's media relations program has been recognized for excellence by the American, Society of Association Executives. ASAE awarded AFMA the 2001 Gold Circle Award for Excellence and Innovation in Association Management. AFMA received a Certificate of Achievement, the second highest honor for excellence in the field of communications. Entries are judged on how well efforts are aligned with the association's strategic plan, the effectiveness of the program design, implementation, use of multiple media channels and achievement of objectives. "We are honored that AFMA's media relations program has received such distinction," said Jackie Hirschhaut, AFMA's vice president of public relations. "This award serves to further validate our efforts to heighten consumer awareness about furniture and to keep the furniture industry informed of pertinent issues." AFMA was among those honored at a special reception for Gold Circle Award winners during ASAE's Management and Technology Conference earlier this month in Baltimore, Md. Hirschhaut accepted the award on behalf of the Association. ASAE's Gold Circle Awards recognize work done in 14 disciplines within the field of association management, ranging from professional development and marketing to technology and component relations. The American Furniture Manufacturers Association (AFMA) is headquartered in High Point, N. C -the furniture capital of the world - and represents more than 350 leading U.S. furniture manufacturers. These manufacturers represent a total of 400, 000 employees and more than 75 percent of U.S. furniture shipments.
