He's got a reputation as something of a furniture industry "guru." Company presidents base major business decisions on his insights and research. But . . . woodworking? Is Jerry Epperson really in touch with the "nuts & bolts" side of our industry, where the sawdust flies and you must shout to be heard above the roar of machines? Well, yes! Epperson is slated to speak at the 15th annual Carolinas Woodworking & Furniture Supply Show® on Friday, February 18, 2000. His presentation, titled "The Changing Furniture Landscape", will take place at 12:30 pm in the Greensboro Coliseum Complex Town Hall. The renowned furniture industry analyst will explore the changes brought about by the Internet and other new technology, America's shifting demographic picture, the future of the workplace, and the increasing prominence of women as business leaders. All of these issues, he emphasizes, are pivotal to the society and homes of tomorrow-and they will directly affect woodworkers from all walks of life. "Our world is evolving rapidly," Epperson declares. "The very way people define their lives is changing. For instance, telecommuting will soon become the norm-people will work and live at home. Already we're seeing the fall of the old corporate model and the rise of entrepreneurialism. And people are placing more value on their leisure time. Such trends are certain to redefine the meaning of 'home'." Keith Eidson, vice-president of show producer Trade Shows, Inc., says these subjects should be at least as important to his guests and exhibitors as, say, the latest advances in tablesaw technology. "Though he's known for his focus on furniture, Epperson's insights are equally relevant to other types of woodworkers," Eidson adds. "The migration of workers to the home will mean a dramatic increase in construction and renovation. And the booming entrepreneurial spirit will surely inspire a new wave of craftsmen and women to set up shop in our industry. It's important that we all pay attention to the big picture." Jerry Epperson is Managing Director of Mann, Armistead & Epperson, Ltd., an investment banking and advisory firm in Richmond, Virginia. The firm is nationally known for the furniture industry experience of its three founders. "We are honored that Mr. Epperson has agreed to speak at the Carolinas Show," says Eidson. "It's a great way for the woodworking community to ring in the new millennium. We hope everyone-guests and exhibitors alike-will take advantage of the opportunity to be inspired by this industry leader." Carolinas Show exhibitor's guests who want to attend Epperson's speech should reserve a seat by calling Patrick at 1-800-315-0648. Alternately, guests may check the "Epperson RSVP" box on their pre-registration form.
