Sevierville’s first Badcock Home Furniture &more store opened on Wednesday, December 10, at 9:00 a.m. The store is a brand new, 17,000-square-foot construction located at 125 River Boulevard North, next to Lowe's Home Center. It will include a full selection of home furniture products including living, dining and bedroom suites, accessories, flooring, outdoor furniture and the company’s new Sleep Center. Owners Kathy and Terrell Williams also signed a multi-unit contract with plans to open future stores in Maryville, Halls and Morristown, Tennessee. Together, they will run the day-to-day operations of the Sevierville store.
“We feel very lucky to be opening in the Sevierville market. We have a lot to offer the customers and are pleased to be a part of this community,” said Terrell Williams, Badcock &more dealer. “We’ve been fortunate to have the support of W.S. Badcock Corporation behind us throughout the entire process of building and opening the store. Their commitment to dealers such as myself and Kathy have made our job easier, and we’re looking forward to opening our future stores.”
The Williamses have been in the market for more than 35 years with backgrounds in the hotel and motel industries. Kathy’s great-grandfather built and operated the Mountain View Hotel, one of the first hotels in the Smoky Mountains, and her great-grandmother, grandfather and father have also been in the hotel/motel business in the area. Terrell bought his first motel in Gatlinburg in 1987, And has worked in the industry since he was 12 years old.
The Williamses were the first Badcock dealers to sign a Limited Area Development Agreement, which is a binding contract that limits other potential Badcock dealers from coming into that market. In addition to the Agreement, dealers will sign a site-specific dealer contract at the time the store opens. Dealerships are similar to franchises in that they are individually owned and operated, but require less capital (dealers do not pay franchise fees or monthly royalties) and allow for quicker start-up than a traditional franchise. More than 270 of Badcock’s stores are dealer owned and operated.
