R.C. Willey CEO Awarded Honorary Degree:

Westminster College of Salt Lake City awarded an honorary doctor of business administration degree to William H. Child, president and CEO of Utah-based R.C.Willey Home Furnishings, Inc. for his outstanding achievements as an entrepreneur and in giving back to his community as a philanthropist. Under his management, R.C.Willey Home Furnishings Inc. has grown over the past 44 years from two employees to over 1,700 employees; from a 600 square foot display to seven stores, and ranks 20th in the top 100 furniture stores in America. Peggy Stock, president of the college, presented the degree to Child at the commencement ceremonies held May 30, 1998. *William H. Child has demonstrated that integrity, quality, and customer service are the three essential ingredients for a successful business and career,* she said in presenting the award. Willey was named National Retailer of the Year; received the National Arts Award three years in a row and three years later, Ernst & Young, Inc. named Child Master Entrepreneur of the Year in 1994. Child, a noted philanthropist, has given generously to many organizations and to higher education.
