Tyler.Net, Tyler Retail Systems' Internet-based worldwide retail network, has a new presence on the Internet that company president Scott Tyler says answers almost "any and every question" retailers are likely to have about the low-cost alternative to conventional computer-based automation solutions. Tyler said that the expanded web site also makes providing news about the steady stream of updates to the Tyler.Net package far more practical and timely than relying on traditional mail or FAXed communications.
"The degree of interest in this concept has been phenomenal," said Tyler. "When we first announced Tyler.Net about a year and a half ago, we found that most small retailers--the very people who Tyler.Net benefits most--were just starting to explore the Internet," he said. "Many were already intimidated by the complexity and cost of dealing with their current computer systems. They just couldn't believe that something as vast and powerful as the Internet could actually simplify their lives, as well as save them substantial sums of money."
"We were ready to put up a web site as part of our marketing campaign the day we announced Tyler.Net," said Tyler, "but at that time, so few of our target audience had access to the Internet it simply didn't make sense."
Since then, Tyler said there has been a steady increase in retailers' understanding and comfort level with the whole notion of Internet commerce. "They now have Internet access, and have surfed the Net," he said. "Most importantly, they see their competition using these tools and technology and know they can't afford to be left behind."
In addition, although the economy continues to be strong overall, the intense competition that hit the retail sector so hard last year remains a fact of life. Small to medium-size retailers who do not want to be swallowed up by the national chains now know they need every advantage available if they hope to survive.
Now those same prospects who were content to wait and see if the new technology worked are calling, and installing, Tyler.Net eagerly. And visiting the web site in droves. "Our new site, which has only been up since April, has already made a significant difference in both the quality and quantity of inquiries we have received," said Tyler. "Especially after hours and weekends, when they have the time to calmly consider their automation needs and examine the system, our support packages, and training programs in detail."
Future plans for the site, address www.tylernet.com, include a soon-to-be announced national contest to win a free Tyler.Net system as well as the complete package of application programs and training, a total value of approximately $20,000, putting the company's quarterly newsletter on-line, offering Tips of the Day for users to maximize benefits and, of course, announcing special sales and promotions. Tyler said he is also considering establishing a User's Forum, where customers can post questions and offer advice targeted to their own specific industry, Case Histories demonstrating how actual customers have benefitted from Tyler.Net, and Links to other related sites and resources.
