AFMA Elects New Officers And Board Members At 1999 Annual Meeting In Puerto Rico

The American Furniture Manufacturers Association (AFMA) elected a new slate of Officers and members of the Association Board of Directors last week at its 1999 annual. meeting in Puerto Rico. Ron Wanek, Chairman/CEO of Ashley Furniture Industries in Arcadia, Wise., will serve as the President of AFMA for the 1999-2000 term. Albert Prillaman, Chairman/CEO of Stanley Furniture Company in Stanleytown, Va., was elected to serve as First Vice President, and Fred Schuermann, Chairman/CEO of LADD Furniture in Greensboro, N.C., was elected to the post of Second Vice President. Outgoing President Fred Preddy, President of Hammary Furniture Company in Lenoir, N.C,, has moved up to Chairman of the Board. New members of the AFMA Board of Directors for a three-year term are: Jerry Birnbach, Rowe furniture Corporation, McLean, Va.; Bill Coley, Lee Industries, Newton, N,C.; Ben Frazier, Klaussner Furniture Industries, Asheboro, N.C.; Howard Gardner III, Florida Furniture Industries, Palatka, Fla.; Joe Johnston, Johnson Casuals, North Wilkesboro, N.C.; Bruce Lauritsen, Flexsteel Industries, 'Dubuque, Iowa; Ed Marshall, Orleans Furniture, Columbia, Miss.; Bob McCreary, McCreary Modem, Newton, N.C. ;.Bob McKinnon, Century Furniture Industries, Hickory, N.C.; Pat Norton, La-Z-Boy Incorporated, Monroe, Mich.; Sonny Roseman, C. R. Laine Furniture, Hickory, N.C.; Phil Statton, Statton Furniture, Hagerstown, Md.; Paul Toms, Hooker Furniture Corporation, Martinsville, Va.; Bill Vaughan, Vaughan Furniture Company, Galax, Va. and John Wampler, Pulaski Furniture Corporation, Pulaski, Va. Also elected to serve an unexpired one-year term were: Fred Sherrill, Conover Chair Company, Conover. N.C.; Craig Smith, Harden Furniture Hayleyville, Ala.; John Bray, Vanguard Furniture., Hickory, N.C,; Bill Ward, Carter Furniture, Salisbury, N.C. and Chris Pfaff, Thomasville Furniture Industries, Thomasville, N.C. The AFMA is a nonprofit, volunteer organization for U.S. furniture manufacturers, with 350 corporate members representing 150,000 employees and more than 75% of domestic and global. shipments of U.S. furniture. Headquartered here, AFMA also maintains a Washington., D.C. office to represent the interests of the furniture industry on legislative and regulatory affairs to the government.
