"When it comes to the home, the lights are without doubt the perfect accompaniment," said one of the leading exhibitors in the Lighting Centre at the International Furniture Fair in January 2001. During the fair, lights proved particularly popular and will once again be a focal point in 2003. For the third time since its successful premiere in 1999, leading exhibitors from Germany and abroad will be presenting a wide range of lamps and lighting as an indispensable part of the home in the Lighting Centre. Even in the nicest of flats, if there is no light then there is simply no atmosphere. Conversely, a sophisticated designer lamp looks lost without the right surroundings. The relationship of furniture to light is like that of yin and yang - weak alone, but so strong together. Although lighting is a distinct furnishing element of its own, it is ineffective without the appropriate setting, such as a country-style dining table or a designer couch. Cologne is the only place where lighting is presented together with furniture. The INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIR thus brings together what belongs together. It's a product range that goes down well with the trade visitors. Let yourself be equally inspired by both areas in just one trade fair visit. In addition, Cologne is the place where manufacturers of home lighting reach one of their most important target groups - the international furnishing retail trade. More than 50 percent of lights in Germany are sold via the furniture trade. Although light has indeed been recognized as an element for setting an atmosphere and an expression of an individual lifestyle, it is not yet sufficiently used as a design element. This is another area which benefits from the Lighting Centre at the INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIR. It provides visitors with a unique source of inspiration in which the importance of light as a design element is given the emphasis it deserves. In the Lighting Centre at the INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIR 2003, visitors will experience a new way in which light and furniture can be mutually inspiring in the right surroundings. Be it design-oriented or classic, individual lights or entire lighting systems - everything is different. The visitors have plenty to look forward to. Before the lights get their chance to sparkle in 2003, the INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIR from 14th to 20th January 2002 will once again feature kitchen and bathroom furniture as the main focus.
