AFMA AND CAPCA TO CONDUCT CONFERENCES ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

The American Furniture Manufacturers Association (AFMA) and the Carolina Air Pollution Control Association (CAPCA) will sponsor separate, back-to-back conferences in Myrtle Beach, SC this month focusing on environmental issues. The AFMA conference will be held on Wednesday, October 29 at the Sands Ocean Resort Hotel. The one-day program will provide detailed environmental information affecting furniture manufacturing. The CAPCA meeting will be held October 30-31 at the Hilton Hotel in Myrtle Beach. Interested participants will need to register for both conferences separately. The AFMA conference will provide participants with detailed information on a broad spectrum of environmental issues including current environmental legislation and regulation. Paul Eisele, Director of Environmental Affairs for Masco, and Ravila Gupta of the N.C. Division of Environmental Management, Office of Waste Reduction, will address Environmental Management Strategies. Sean Callinicos, Legislative Counsel to U.S. Senator Lauch Faircloth, will discuss the current state of political thinking in the environmental arena and what is on the horizon. Alan McConnell of the law firm Kilpatrick & Stockton will discuss the Any Credible Evidence Rule as it applies to furniture manufacturing, record keeping and how to avoid violations. Boiler Control Technology and Opacitv will be examined by David Savage of Eastern Technical Associates and Raymond Warren of Warren Engineering, Inc. Finally, Lori Hinnatt of Womble Carlyle law firm will host a panel discussion on 112R, CAM, Particulates, boiler and metal furniture NESHAP's and ozone/particulate regulation. The CAPCA conference will cover the N.C. Environmental Program, a report from EPA, ISO 14000, NAAOS update, inspection, odor control and Nox reduction issues.
