NHFA PAST PRESIDENTS HONORED AT CONVENTION

Six of National Home Furnishings Association's past presidents were honored during NHFA's All-Industry Convention in San Diego, August 9 - 12. Each received an NHFA Past Presidents pin at a special reception hosted by NHFA's Board of Directors at the Treetops at the San Diego Zoo August 11. Melvin Lack, Lack's Stores, Victoria, Texas, was president in 1996 and currently serves as Chairman of NHFA's Board of Directors. As immediate Past President, he was master of ceremonies for the evening, which included entertainment and guest appearances from some of the San Diego Zoo's permanent residents. Other past presidents honored include: Harold Greenbaum, Wayside Furniture, Milford, Conn., 1990 president; Bernie Moray, Gorman's Gallery, Southfield, Mich., 1991 president; Philip Teplitz, La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, West Mifflin, Pa., 1993 president; Bob Masin, Masin's, Seattle, Wash., 1994 president; and Tony Weiler, Heilig-Meyers, Richmond, Va., 1995 president. Lack pointed out that many of NHFA's past presidents remain active in the Association even after their tenure as an NHFA leader is complete. For example, Greenbaum helped found the Council for the Qualification of Residential Interior Designers in 1990. Teplitz recently volunteered to serve a second term as NHFA's liaison to the Upholstered Furniture Action Council, and both Masin and Weiler continue to serve on the Association's Group Insurance Trust. Founded in 1919, National Home Furnishings Association, headquartered in High Point, is a trade association serving the specific needs of home furnishings retailers. NHFA provides essential information, government representation, professional education and training, and business and operating tools to its 3,000 members, which represent over 10,000 stores nationwide. NHFA's 1999 All-Industry Convention will be held in Boston, August 14-17, at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers.
