Dallas, TX Based Mattress Giant Acquires Nationwide Discount Sleep Centers

Dallas-based Mattress Giant Corporation announced its acquisition of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based Nationwide Discount Sleep Centers. Nationwide, which specializes in the retail sale of mattresses and related bedding products, currently operates 48 stores under various trade names throughout the Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware regions. Mattress Giant plans to convert all the locations acquired to Nationwide Mattress Giant stores over the next several months. The Nationwide locations accounted for approximately 40 million dollars in annual sales throughout the Delaware Valley Region last year. Phil Lang, CEO and President of Mattress Giant plans to use the acquisition to serve as a springboard for the Company's expansion into the Mid-Atlantic Region with a particular emphasis on the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area and its surrounding suburbs over the next several months. "The Company plans to establish a presence on the West Coast as well over the next twelve months with major cities in California being targeted for expansion," said Lang. The 48-store acquisition gives the Texas-based chain a total of 175 retail locations, making it the largest privately held bedding retailer in the United States. The chain predicts sales of over $200 million dollars within the next 12 months. Prior to the acquisition, Mattress Giant Corporation had existing locations throughout Texas, Florida, Minnesota, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri and New Hampshire. Terms of the transaction were not be disclosed.
