Portraits and brief biographies of the American Furniture Hall of Fame members added in 1998 can now be viewed on the AFHF Member Wall in the Furniture Discovery Center, High Point, NC
During the first decade, the AFHF has elected forty-two heroes and pioneers. The members elected in 1998:
Henry Talmadge Link (1889-1983) founded Dixie Furniture Company of Lexington, NC in 1936 and was co-founder of Link-Taylor in 1949-50, YoungHinkle in 1962, Dixie-Linwood in 1972 and Wicker by Henry Link in 1984.
Earl N. Phillips (1897-1975) was co-founder of Phillips Davis, Inc. in 1932, Phillips Foscue Company in 1957, Factors, Inc. in 1958 and First Factors in 1972. He was instrumental in the development of the Furniture Plaza and the adjacent Holiday Inn.
George Alden Thornton, Jr. (1916-1980) While building a retail chain of Thornton stores, he developed a corporate centralized management system. This was key to the future success of the Thornton Heilig-Meyers merger where he served as Chairman from 1970 until his death.
