Futon Association International establishes Task Force to Work on Position Regarding Proposed Open-Flame Standard

At the January meeting of the Board of Directors of the Futon Association International, which took place during the Winter San Francisco furniture market, the Association took a stand for consumer safety by establishing a Task Force to compile existing documentation and gather new information which will help address the Association's position regarding the issue of an open-flame testing standard being discussed by the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), the California Bureau of Home Furnishings, the International Sleep Products Association and other key members of the home furnishings industry this year. "The Board has decided to take a pro-active stand for consumer safety and continue to add to the Association's growing base of facts and information concerning this critical issue," said Association president David Buechner. "We are sending FAI Board member Steven Ray to Washington, DC, as our representative, to attend the February 4 roundtable meeting of the CPSC to discuss the issues related to the possibility of some type of federal open-flame testing standard for home furnishings," Buechner said. The CPSC roundtable will also be attended by ISPA President, and FAI member, Tony Wolf, President of Wolf Corporation, John McCormack, Technical Supervisor for the Cal Bureau, arid other interested parties. "Any FAI member interested in participating in the Task Force should contact the FAI office for more information and direction," Buechner said.
