An exhibition from Kimberley Australian Aboriginal Art-a gallery based in Melbourne, Australia-is coming to the April 1999 International Home Furnishings Market. Its purpose? to help introduce Outback Retreat a unique Australian furniture collection from Jasper, Indiana manufacturer Kimball Home. Outback Retreat Is a 26-piece dining bedroom and occasional collection made from "Australian Wormy Chestnut." The natural Characteristics of this hardwood reveal the harsh realities of the Australian climate firestreaks from past bushfires as well as trails and markings left by insects such as ambrosia beetles and squiggly worms The Aboriginal art-which includes both paintings and sculptures-will be displayed alongside the new furniture in the Kimball Home showroom from Wednesday, April 14 to Friday, April 23. Artists from all over Australia will be represented in this exhibit with works as rich and varied as the geography of "the land down under." Aboriginal art in general expresses the relationship a person, tribe or clan has with its country and ancestors, both spiritual and actual. Each individual has a responsibility to safeguard the "Dreaming" or spiritual law related to the land and its living entities. Art helps fulfill that duty by educating the world about this ancient culture. Judy Cameron, an employee of Kimberley Australian Aboriginal Art, will be In the Kimball Home showroom on Thursday, April 15th. She will be available to lead tours, provide information and answer questions. "We are truly honored to have such fine examples of Aboriginal art in our showroom," declares Robert Cribbs, director of sales and marketing for Kimball Home. "These works are beautiful and rich with Australian heritage. We feel that they complement Outback Retreat and are a fitting way to help celebrate our new furniture." Both the art and the furniture collection can be seen in the Kimball Home Showroom, located in the second floor of the new Market on Main Building, 233 South Main Street High Point (two doors South of IHFC Main Building, directly across from Holiday Inn).
