GHFA Announces 45TH Annual Convention

The Georgia Home Furnishings Association recently announced plans for their 45th Annual Convention at the Crowne Plaza Resort in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The dates for the event will be June 20 - 24, 1999. The four-day convention will consist of educational seminars, sports tournaments, family activities, and installation of officers. Ted Shepherd, CEO of Shepherd Performance Groups, will facilitate the 2nd Annual "Best Ideas Competition." Each participant is asked to bring their best idea on how to improve a home furnishings store - from crazy promotions to serious finance. Each table will vote for their "best idea" and present it to the entire convention. Prizes will be awarded for First, Second, and Third "Best Idea" with the winners being announced at the Monday evening President's Banquet. The 1998 competition proved to be very successful among the attendees. Reps, Manufacturers, and Vendors are also invited to participate. A second seminar will be held Wednesday morning featuring Ellen Gefen, co-owner of Gefen Productions and the newly formed Majec, Inc. Ellen will present a Design & Color Trends Workshop for the convention attendees. Her extensive knowledge and expertise in the area of home furnishings provides her the ability to forecast upcoming trends in home furnishings. Entertainment highlights of the convention will include an opening night Hawaiian Luau complete with music, dancing, and Hula girls- a "Southern Evening" with entertainment provided by Atlanta based "Banks and Shane"; and concluding with a '50's Sock Hop to commemorate the 45 th GHFA Convention. A DJ will provide the music for the Sock Hop and prizes will be awarded for Best Dressed, Hula Hoop, and Dancing contests. The Ladies will enjoy an afternoon cruise to beautiful Daufuskie Island and a gourmet luncheon at the Daufuskie Island Club Resort. The annual GHFA convention sporting events include the Claude Bailey Golf Tournament, Mixed/Men's/Ladies Tennis tournaments, and the Retailers vs. Reps Volleyball tournament. Children's programs will also be available.
