IKEA Conshohocken Says Good-Bye To Winter With Traditional Swedish Midsommar Holiday Fun Festivities

WHAT: IKEA Conshohocken invites shoppers to participate in the celebration of its roots and heritage with month-long of festivities (June 14-July 11) for the traditional Swedish Midsommar holiday. The Midsommar holiday in Sweden dates back to the Viking era when the longest days of light in Sweden (summer solstice in the U.S.) were celebrated and homes and local landmarks were decorated with flowers to officially proclaim the end of the long winter season.
Today in Sweden some national holiday traditions include singing, dancing and even jumping like frogs around a Maypole decorated with leaves and flowers. Also popular during this time of year is artistic flag making and dining on cuisine specialties such as pickled herring, and for the first time of the year, new potatoes are served, and the first crops of strawberries are prepared as delicious treats. Keeping in spirit with the Midsommar holiday, IKEA Conshohocken has the following activities planned for all to enjoy:

A MULTITUDE OF MEATBALLS – Meatballs " all you can eat" only $3.00 per person (valid only on the day of purchase). Stop by the IKEA Restaurant and purchase a plate of meatballs on any day between June 14 and June 20th and have as many meatballs as you like. Just show your receipt at the register.
Saturday, June 19, 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. HEAD TO TOE – Any visitor dressed head to toe in blue and yellow, the colors of Sweden’s flag, will receive a $10.00 IKEA gift certificate.
June 19-20, June 26-27, July 3-4 and July 10-11, 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
KIDS EAT FREE AFTER ARTS AND CRAFTS – Children up to the age of 12 are welcome to participate in a special Midsommar Holiday arts and craft activity; each participating child will receive a coupon for a free kid's meal at the IKEA Restaurant.

QUEEN FOR A DAY – Women eat for $2.00. Visit the IKEA Restaurant and prepare to be treated like Swedish Royalty! Between June 21 - 27, you can enjoy any of our delicious entrees for only $2.00!

FLOWER POWER – The first 30 IKEA visitors in line when the IKEA Conshohocken store opens that are dressed as a flower or wearing flowers from head to toe will receive a $100.00 IKEA gift card.

A TASTE OF SWEDISH CULTURAL HERITAGE – All IKEA Conshohocken visitors can partake in Swedish holiday food sampling served by members of the Swedish Women's Educational Association (SWEA) dressed in traditional garb.
