Decorating Den Interiors (DDI) celebrated its 14th anniversary Dream Room Contest in the Presidential Suite of the Plaza Hotel in New York City. Editors from more than 14 national trade and shelter publications participating as judges. John S. Elmo, FASID, past President of the NY Metropolitan Chapter of ASID, also took part in the judging. The contest is comprised of 14 categories ranging from: Bathroom, Bedroom, Children's Room, Commercial, Dining Room, Family Room, Kitchen, Living Room, Miscellaneous, Model, Showhouse, Window Treatment, and Owner/Decorator. Entries were submitted from DDI decorators from throughout the United States and Canada. Professionally photographed, each entry/story board, consists of "before" and "after" photos and other materials of a completed project. The judging is based on design excellence, creative problem solving, and overall presentation. Participating editors determine the First, Second and Third place winners in each of 13 categories; with the First place winners of each category being re-judged to determine Decorating Den Interiors' 1998 Decorator of the Year. Decorating Den Interiors' 1997 Decorator of the Year, Jan Bertin joined the DDI entourage to New York City where she was "wined and dined" as part of her reign as Decorator of the Year. Bertin's prize package included; accommodations in the Presidential Suite; dinner with interior designer Mario Buatta and tickets to the critically acclaimed musical Ragtime. Decorating Den Interiors was established 29 years ago with the belief that interior decorating services should be affordable for middle-income families. As a result of the contest, DDI work has been featured recently in such publications as Southern Living, Better Homes & Gardens, Woman's World, Bedrooms and Baths and many more. Additionally, DDI has been featured on ABC's "Good Morning America," NBC's "Today" show, "CBS This Morning," PBS' "This Old House," HGTV's "Decorating with Style", the Discovery Channel's "Start to Finish," Lifetime's "Our Home," TNN's "Country Today," and many other television programs for its concept and interior decorating capabilities.
