The American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD) is pleased to announce the Composite Panel Association (CPA) will continue as an important sponsor for the ASFD’s Pinnacle Design Achievement Awards program in 2004. The CPA will once again be the exclusive sponsor of the Home Office design category within this distinguished and annual design competition, which takes place during the Fall High Point Markets in High Point, North Carolina. In the 2004 Pinnacle program, CPA will also be the sole sponsor of the newly created design contest category of Decorative Surfaces. The CPA’s Director of Market Development George Carter said, “We are enthusiastic about the opportunity to be a part of the ASFD’s Pinnacle awards program for another year. With the addition of the new Decorative Surfaces category in the design contest, we believe that the ASFD and CPA can work together to raise the level of awareness and recognition for this important and popular area of design.” According to Karl Felperin, ASFD member and Pinnacle Committee Chairman, “The newly created Decorative Surfaces category within our Pinnacle Design Achievement Awards program will include any furniture item where the majority of the components (by weight) are composite panel products that have a decorative surface applied to them. Composite panel products are defined as particleboard, MDF and hardboard. Decorative surfaces include laminates, papers, vinyls and coatings.” Products with Decorative Surfaces will be first judged with other products in their functional category_Occasional Tables, Bedroom, etc., on the merits of the design according to ongoing Pinnacle criteria against other products in that functional category as before. After all 15 categories have been judged, all products using Decorative Overlays will be judged against each other regardless of functional category according to the same criteria. This second round of judging will produce a winner and up to three finalists in the Decorative Surfaces category. The Executive Director of the ASFD Christine Evans added, “Judging will be based on the most innovative use and combination of composite panel products and decorative surfaces. We are extremely happy to integrate this new design category into our overall competition in 2004 and delighted to have CPA as a continuing and expanded sponsor.” For more information about the ASFD, the Pinnacle Design Achievement Awards Program, the Decorative Surfaces design competition category, or entry forms for the next competition please contact: ASFD Executive Director Christine Evans, ASFD Headquarters, 144 Woodland Drive, New London, NC 28127, T: (910) 576-1273, F: (910) 5761573 or e-mail: info@asfd.com.
