Co-owners of Red Door Interiors, Robert and Connie Taylor opened for business in April 2004 following a year of extensive renovations to an historic brick structure at the corner of 23rd and Eye Streets in Bakersfield, California.  On August 31, The Honorable Harvey L. Hall, Mayor of Bakersfield joined the Taylors to officially cut the ribbon.  Now it’s time to celebrate with the citizens of Bakersfield. Beginning at 5pm on September 30th, the red carpet will be rolled out to welcome close friends and family members for a private party at Red Door Interiors.  At 7:30pm, invited guests will arrive to enjoy the Taylors’ hospitality and to experience how this historic section of Bakersfield has been revitalized by a contemporary, lifestyle home furnishings showroom with a New York City-loft feeling. Robert and Connie Taylor are well-known Bakersfield entrepreneurs who founded Taylor & Taylor Interiors at 2701 F Street in 1977.  In starting Red Door Interiors, the Taylors have brought a fresh, contemporary approach to home furnishings to Bakersfield and have refurbished one of the city’s oldest structures.  In selecting furniture for their new showroom, the Taylors worked extensively with Rowe Furniture to adapt and expand the successful studiorowe program to create lifestyle vignettes of upholstered furniture and accent pieces as well as installing an extensive fabric wall to encourage customization of any of the sofas, chairs, ottomans and sectionals on display. The 11,000 square foot, brick structure at the corner of 23rd and Eye Streets has been a part of Bakersfield’s history since the early 1900s.  In the late ‘30s and ‘40s it was the home to AW Webster’s Automobile Trimming.  In 1952, the Kernville Stage Lines took up home here.  Hawk Oldsmobile occupied the building in the late ‘60s and it’s believed to have housed a skating rink at one point. The Taylors have restored the exteriors walls, cleaned the original brick on the inside, exposed the skylights, stained the concrete floors, and taken advantage of the 20’ ceilings to create a showplace for the furniture.  The structure sits on the corner of the block and is easily noticed by the trademark red doors.  On the inside, visitors encounter an expansive, unique space which is full of natural light because of the skylights and large street-level windows.  Half of the structure is devoted to warehouse space for the Taylors two businesses, but the remaining 5,300 square feet is open to the public and includes several vignettes to best display the selection of upholstered furniture, tables, shelving units and accent pieces.
