Cory Trucks: Yesterday & Today
One of CORYS' first clients in 1934 was Seaman's Furniture. Today the company continues to partner with the Seaman family.
“Our company's philosophy has always been to create long-term partnerships with our retail clients,” says Chairman Joe Cory, Sr. “We have been serving many for more than 50 years. Our largest client today is Rooms To Go, which, of course, is run by Jules Seaman's grandson Jeff. From the very beginning, we've thought of ourselves as the marathoners of home delivery. We always take the long-term view.”
From its humble beginnings in 1934 to today, CORY has grown to comprise more than 900 dedicated managers, employees, and delivery contractors nationwide. The team is committed to customer satisfaction, from point of receipt of merchandise from the manufacturer through preparation and deluxing, to final delivery to the consumer.
The company mission is “to deliver it right the first time, every time,” enabling retailers to focus on sales and other important aspects of business that they do best. CORY's extensive group of top-flight managers and delivery contractors offers retailers flexibility to develop business and grow, without having to significantly expand the outlay of capital.
“With all of the changes the furniture industry is undergoing now, more than at any time before, having a stable, well-run delivery operation is crucial to a retailer's success,” adds Mr. Cory. “That's where CORY comes in.”
Six years ago CORY branched out into a new arena to serve the appliance and consumer electronics industry. In that short period of time, CORY has assembled an impressive list of clients, currently serving three of the top five appliance and consumer electronics retailers in the United States - Best Buy, Circuit City and Home Depot.
Another important key in CORY's long-term success is giving back to the furniture industry. The company is a sponsor and member of more than a dozen industry-related groups including National Home Furnishing Association, American Furniture Manufacturers Alliance, American Furniture Hall of Fame, and the Greater New York Home Furnishings Association.
“We believe in giving something back to the industry that has given so much to our company and our family. Part of that philosophy is involvement with charities,” says Mr. Cory. Among the many charities CORY supports are City of Hope, Home Furnishing Division of Anti-Defamation League, and Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Hospital.
Based in Jersey City, New Jersey CORY serves markets throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The company dispatches a modern fleet of more than 400 customized delivery vehicles daily, operates more than 400,000 square feet of warehouse space, and delivers to more than 1.25 million consumers' homes each year.
