Kornmeyer’s Furniture announced the selection of GRID2, an award-winning team of retail consultants, architects, and interior and graphic designers, for assistance in the design of an extended store space and retrofit of the existing retail space at 7643 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Kornmeyer’s current 100,000 square feet will be extended an additional 40,000 square feet, with warehouse and patio additions to bring the size to over 140,000 square feet. Although Kornmeyer’s already features the largest furniture showroom in the area, these additions will cement its reputation as a one-stop destination for all home furnishing needs. GRID2 will commence this design initiative for Kornmeyer’s immediately.
GRID2’s first step is to design a new identity system for Kornmeyer’s, which will involve extensive research into the company’s DNA in order to create effective, individualized design. The next step in the project will be a visual positioning, updating Kornmeyer’s interior and exterior signage systems with a fresh new look. Finally, GRID2’s environment team will provide concept design drawings, expanding the furniture store to include a larger indoor showroom and a new outdoor patio show area. The renovation will be rolled out throughout the year and completed by Spring 2006.
Martin Roberts, President of GRID2, states: “We are excited by the scope of this project, and look forward to producing, for such an historic Southern landmark as Kornmeyer’s, a furniture showroom unlike any other furniture retail space in the South.”
Kornmeyer’s aggressive growth plans are the result of a comprehensive market study recently conducted for Kornmeyer’s by Al White of Strategic Decisions. Rose Mary Williams, Kornmeyer’s Executive Vice-President and General Manager, was pleased with the survey findings, noting “consumers look to Kornmeyer’s for high style, high quality, and the best selection.” She adds, “Our goal is to broaden our assortment by style and price level to accommodate an expanded customer base – and to fill the needs of young customers who may be new to the furniture market.”
Harold Bahlinger, Sr., President of Kornmeyer’s, describes the finished design as “a true destination for the furniture shopper. It will be a unique shopping experience. Customers will find exciting enhancements, new departments, and everything they need under one roof,” he explains.
