Jonathan Adler Furniture by Rowe will premiere on March 2, 2005 during an invitation-only event in New York City. The celebrated interior designer and bon vivant, who began his career making pottery, will be on hand to work the room.
This first comprehensive collection of upholstered furniture and accent pieces for the home will be available at retail in Summer 2005.
“Jonathan’s personality and design vision has a gravitational pull - you naturally want to step into his world,” explains Bruce Birnbach, President of Rowe Furniture. “Jonathan Adler Furniture makes sense to both retailers and consumers because Jonathan is a proven commodity at retail, with his pottery and home furnishings accents, and he has design cachet with consumers.”
The 38-year-old designer’s career began when famed NY retailer Barneys placed their first order for his line of groovy, graphic pottery. In 1998, Jonathan opened his first store in SoHo and in addition to pottery, began offering pillows, rugs and lighting as well as vintage pieces he personally sought to accent his own designs. The success of the SoHo store eventually led to the opening of stores in East Hampton, Los Angeles and Miami and in Spring 2005 two new locations will open – New York’s Madison Avenue and San Francisco.
“I’m a dorky design enthusiast,” explains Jonathan. “I’ve always known exactly what I want furniture to be—a combination of modern shapes, luxurious fabrics, and down-filled comfort—but that didn’t exist, so I designed the pieces I was always looking for but could never find.”
Rowe Furniture is an established manufacturer of upholstered furniture. With factories in Virginia and Missouri, Rowe is able to produce quality upholstered furniture in the U.S. and deliver it to retailers around the world. The alliance with Jonathan Adler is Rowe’s first designer relationship, in which a notable individual will lead the creative direction for a collection of upholstered furniture produced by Rowe and a collection of accent pieces in which Rowe will oversee the production.
The designer collection agreement, spearheaded by Birnbach and Rowe’s Senior Vice President Stefanie Lucas, signifies the 59-year-old manufacturer’s ability to provide custom upholstered manufacturing for a design vision which is distinctive from Rowe’s existing collections. Rowe will also oversee the production of the accent pieces which will be manufactured overseas, further strengthening Rowe’s ability to source and manage the quality production of wood accents.
