A dramatic, five-story, 50,000-square foot neoclassical style premier furniture showroom tower called “Windows on Main” is scheduled to open October 2006 on Main Street across from the Radisson Hotel.
“Market is all about easy retailer access, convenience and location, and that’s the reason for creating premier showrooms that appeal to manufacturers wanting distinction and greater control over their destiny,” said Scott Berry, the developer and whose company T.S. Berry will be one of the tenants of the landmark-style building.
According to the architect, “The design of the128 South Main Street building is of Neoclassical origin in scale and proportion. We feel this brings monumentality and an aesthetically pleasing composition to the street facade. We have opened up outdoor balconies to the street on the second and fifth floors to allow additional functionality and also to provide for visual interaction between those on the street and those who are actually engaged in use of the structure.
“The towers most likely will be used to house mechanical equipment and an elevator/stair. They also have the potential, through the use of exterior lighting, to serve as unique elements that would make this structure easily recognizable from a distance.
“The rotunda seen on the uppermost floor is designed as space for the owner to entertain guests. It is an open plan with a high ceiling and a clearstory to allow plenty of light. This space would open directly to the fifth floor outside balcony.
“Our intent was to design a structure that would have an inviting as well as inspiring street-side façade that would draw people to it, but that the experience would not stop there but continue as they entered the building and interacted with the spaces both inside and out.”
