Capel Incorporated, manufacturer and importer of area rugs since 1917, collaborated with licensee Williamsburg to expand upon its line of 18th and 19th century inspired rugs. Capel signed a licensing agreement with Williamsburg in 2002, and since then the popular product line has grown to over fifteen different rug collections. New themes, new constructions, and unique colors were added to the Williamsburg program, and new collections will be introduced this Spring at the International Home Furnishings Market in High Point April 14 - 20.
"Having the opportunity to utilize the Williamsburg archives is extremely beneficial for Capel and Williamsburg designers to coordinate today's colors with yesterday's heritage," stated Leon Capel, Executive Director of Capel Incorporated.
New designs from Williamsburg include Strie, a lighthearted variation on a traditional stripe that will be debuting during spring market. With a striated look in soothing cinnabar and ocean sky colorways, Strie is made from soft, 100% cotton in a low-profile flat weave construction. In addition, there is a new all-wool loop hooked collection with a vintage Williamsburg Appeal. A mix of soft green, beige, crimson, rose, and deep plum give a retro feel to the flower, leaf and butterfly motifs in Prentis Bouquet and Prentis Garden.
Capel has a fresh take on outdoor area rugs this Spring and will introduce three new collections designed to outfit patios, porches and decks. The outdoor rug category is one of Capel's fastest growing, and the company's superior construction techniques and upscale designs have made Capel a leading supplier for indoor/outdoor floorcoverings.
"The demand for outdoor rugs is increasing every month," stated Allen Robertson, Vice President and National Sales Manager. "We received several hundred inquiries from a 30 second HGTV program featuring one of our outdoor rugs as presented by Leon Capel. Our new introductions for this market are a definite must see."
Garden Gate is a classic Capel braid in a chunky construction that resembles hammock rope. Made from polypropylene that won't fade, shrink, mildew or stain, Garden Gate is well suited for outdoor use. Colorways evergreen, black walnut, redwood and birch bark are subtle shades that blend well with garden landscapes.
Weatherwise, another outdoor collection, features ribbed and checkered designs in neutral colorways that mimic the look of natural sisal. Made in France from 100% olefin, Weatherwise is weather-proof and cleans easily with a quick squirt from a garden hose. Capel is also introducing Sea Breeze, a second 100% olefin collection that works outdoors but looks good enough to use indoors. Woven in Belgium on a sisal-look loom, the collection includes six rugs in tiled and checkered patterns and rustic colorways ranging from brick red to oatmeal.
This Spring, Capel will also expand upon its quickly-growing contemporary collections. Prism is a new contemporary constructed of 100% New Zealand wool in India. Designed by artist Jennifer Moore, Prism displays creative forms and patterns that express transformation in progress on a template of earth colored tones. Capel also adds three new colors to the Tempo collection: wheat, steel, and garnet. Tempo is another Indian-made rug of 100% New Zealand wool. Triple washed for a silky feel, the 1/2" luxurious cut-pile rug brings both durability and comfort to the home.
