Sealy, Inc., a leading mattress producer, has been named to FORTUNE magazine’s list of “America’s Most Admired Companies” for 2005. This is the third year in a row that FORTUNE magazine has recognized Sealy with this prestigious honor. Sealy moved up one place to the #5 ranking in the “Furniture” section of the “Shelter” category and is still the only bedding manufacturer to make the list. In 2003, the company ranked sixth and in 2002 Sealy was ranked eighth. Sealy’s ranking appears on page 87 of the March 7th, 2005 issue of FORTUNE.
FORTUNE and its survey partner Hay Group, who has conducted the research for this survey since 1997, asked the top managers at 582 companies (the largest by revenues in each sector) to judge their competition. In all, 10,000 executives, directors, and securities analysts rated the companies in their industry on eight attributes including: social responsibility, long-term investment value, employee talent, quality of products/services, innovation, use of corporate assets, financial soundness, and quality of management.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by FORTUNE magazine for the third year in a row,” said Dave McIlquham, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sealy, Inc. “This honor reflects the contributions and commitment of all Sealy associates who work hard each day to make this company great. The fact that Sealy is the only bedding manufacturer recognized by FORTUNE makes this achievement even more significant.”
