Leaders of the furniture industry nationwide turned out in grand style at the Greater New York Home Furnishings Association annual dinner dance to honor CORY Home Delivery’s own Joe Cory, Sr. The prestigious David Druckman Lifetime Achievement Award presented at the recent gala event at Terrace on the Park in Queens, New York, recognizes the CORY Chairman and CEO for his outstanding service and involvement with the furniture industry and the community at large. The award instituted in memory of David Druckman who devoted his life to the furniture industry and those in it, was presented by GNYHFA and the Druckman family. The family was represented by Jim Druckman, who spoke about his father’s service to the industry and Joe Cory as a role model to exemplify. “Joe Cory is indeed a leader and a pillar of the industry,” says GNYHFA Executive Director Barbara Goldstein. “This year’s Druckman Award is a give-back. Joe Cory is a longtime member of the association, and there is nothing the Cory family has not done personally and professionally for the furniture community,” she says. “It is truly humbling and an honor to be recognized in such an official way,” says Joe Cory, who asked his brother, President Jim Cory, with whom he leads one of the largest and oldest specialized home delivery services in the country, to join him at the podium. Surrounded by family and friends, Joe Cory accepted the award in memory of his father, company founder Joseph Cory, that was presented to him by his friend of 50 years, Rooms To Go Chairman Morty Seaman. Joe Cory dedicated the award to another long-time friend, Alan Rosenberg, CEO of Levitz/Seaman’s Furniture, whose untimely passing was recently mourned. “There are many people on our team in cities nationwide who pull together every day. We all share this award as CORY grows,” says Joe Cory, active in the furniture industry for more than 45 years and the recipient of many service and citizenship awards. He was joined at the festive celebration by family and friends. Joe Cory shares this year’s GNYHFA’s honorary stage with Jerry Gans Award recipient Joseph Mehran, Sr., who heads Futurama Home Furniture, based in Queens, New York. Both Futurama and CORY are third-generation family businesses. Recent Druckman Award recipients include Barton Bienenstock, publisher of Furniture World and Michael and George Massood of MGM Transport. Louis and Ruth Euster of Yellow Barn received the award posthumously. Recent Jerry Gans Award recipients include Thomas Martinez, Vice President of Merchandising for Seaman’s Furniture and Salvatore Alamia, President of American Furniture Company. Fash-N-Home Furniture Distributors received the honor as an entity. “Joe Cory is a shining example of what the industry is about. He has taught his family and those coming after him in the business well,” Barbara Goldstein concludes. “His vision, leadership, and involvement in the home furnishings industry and with its people are qualities all furniture families would do well to emulate.” Based in Jersey City, CORY serves markets throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
