Sierra Madre, CA: Building on the success of the critically acclaimed Fresh Wood, volume 1 printed in 2003 and featuring the winners of that year’s AWFS®Fair Student Design Contest, Fresh Wood, volume 2 will be produced this year featuring the 2005 Student Design Contest winners.
The art book includes multiple photographs detailing each award winning furniture piece, as well as comments from experts in the woodworking and furniture industries, and explanations from the students and their teachers.
“Fresh Wood rivals any of the coffee table books on art and interior design,” declares Tony Varda, of Cefla Finishing America, and AWFS® board member. “It offers a perfect place for new emerging designs and artists to be recognized, especially in print.” He adds, “It will impact some of the major manufacturer’s thinking on design.”
“Fresh Wood v.1, featuring the finalists from the 2003 Fair, was enthusiastically received by both the industry and the woodworking education professionals,” said Larry Hilchie, of the Weinig Group, AWFS® Board member and Chair of AWFS® Education Committee. “We are looking forward to Fresh Wood v.2 detailing the innovation and craftsmanship of our nation’s best woodworking and design students.”
At AWFS®Vegas, July 27 – 30, both Fresh Wood books, volume 1 and 2 will be sold at the Fair book store and at the Student Design display area. In a special combination deal, when volume 2 is ordered at pre-publication price of $35.00, volume 1 is only $10.00 more. Also at the Fair, “got fresh wood?” hats will be given with each order while supplies last.
Books can also be purchased directly at www.freshwood2005.com. Fresh Wood, v.2 will be available and shipped November 2005.
The book is a production of the boutique publisher, Mitra Publishing Group, with photographs and text by Greg Asbury and Judy Smith. Margrit Lehmann of Smith Asbury Inc. and Nancy Fister of AWFS® have major roles in editing the material.
