To find out what’s new and hot, furniture buyers are invited to attend the first annual Las Vegas Furniture Show from July 25 through 28 at the Sands Expo & Convention Center. Stephan Phelps of Triad Expositions, the producers of the Las Vegas Furniture Show, details what participants can expect of the newest trends in interior design.
“Color, color, color,” he said. “Primary colors, like greens, blues, reds and yellows, will be seen more often, but ‘Earthy’ colors are making the biggest splash, with persimmon, oranges, browns, and greens making the most popular impact on furniture designers, especially on traditional Italian and French pieces.”
“Shiny” furniture is one of the more popular trends this season. While the “wet” look is a consistent mainstay with furniture shoppers, elegant and understated designs are more the favorite than the flashy fare of the past. Look for more modern and masculine pieces, with walnut, stone accents, ivory, obsidian and Chinese red lacquer leading the way.
Another furniture style is bringing people to the land from down under – Australia, said Phelps. “Wood furniture like chests and tables inspired by the Australian way of using different wood grains and swirl-like burls are the ‘it’ factor. Look for faux, crocodile-embossed leather chairs and sofas as well.”
Another area of the world that has lent modern design to home furnishings this season is Asia. Spice greens and reds are showing up more often. Banana bark coffee tables and bamboo-accented pieces are examples of this Asian influence.
Phelps noted that “Ottomans” remain popular, but are now being created even larger with hidden storage compartments. “This could be a hit with loft-style developments now underway,” he said. “The multiple compartments add style and functionality for limited space.”
One other design making a comeback is the use of Toile, pronounced ‘twal.’ This is a white or off-white cotton fabric with pictures of pastoral life.
“The trends in furniture and interior design continue to evolve,” Phelps said. “We’re excited to be offering our Las Vegas Furniture Show twice annually to keep everyone abreast of the latest offerings in the furniture design world.”
