The Hollywood buzz about High Definition movies and television has become a local reality with Gefen Productions’ purchase of a top-of-the-line, high definition video camera. The High Point-based firm recently became the first production company in North Carolina to invest in a Sony HDW-F900 High Definition (HD) video camera. “High Definition video provides images with the color, crispness and detail previously found only in film and is quickly becoming the new technology for movies and television,” says Mark Caudill, co-owner of Gefen Productions. Gefen has also added a Fisher 10 dolly to their arsenal of capabilities. A “dolly” is a platform on wheels for moving the camera and camera operator around smoothly. The Fisher 10 model is the standard in the motion picture industry, giving the camera movement in all planes. “With this new equipment, we are continuing our aggressive growth strategy while advancing the look and feel of our clients’ media productions,” explains Caudill. “We also become the regional resource for advertising agencies who have had to look to Atlanta or New York if they want to produce High Definition television spots.” The Sony F900 HD camera is the same camera selected by George Lucas to shoot Star Wars Episode II. In the past year, more than 30 primetime TV programs — including 8 Simple Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter, Whoopi and The George Lopez Show — and some 40 feature films were produced with the F900. High Definition video has also become the format of choice for advertising agencies who have produced TV commercials for corporations such as AT&T, Budweiser, Ford, MasterCard and McDonald’s. Gefen Productions, founded in 1983, is a High Point, North Carolina-based multi-media production company. It has gained a reputation as the preeminent production house in North Carolina by continually investing in new technology and training. Gefen produces television commercials and training and corporate videos, as well as providing post-production services and equipment rental. The firm also produces, Home Fashion Report, a news show that covers the new products and design trends introduced at the bi-annual International Home Furnishings Market in High Point. The show’s host, Ellen Gefen, is co-owner, with husband Mark Caudill, of Gefen Productions and is a prominent spokesperson for the home furnishings industry.
