Color is the backbone of decorating and comes into play in nearly every decorating decision. With the myriad of color-related decisions to be made – walls, floors, window treatments, sofas, pillows, rugs, furniture finishes, accents – many people, including design professionals, stick with easy and safe neutrals.
During the San Francisco Mart’s Winter Show 2006, you can learn how to incorporate color schemes without intimidation at a special seminar, Mastering Color: The Art of Choosing Ideal Palettes. The seminar will be presented by Joann Eckstut, an award-winning designer and one of America’s foremost experts on color. This trade-only event will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 3 at the San Francisco Mart.
In this seminar, Eckstut will discuss how you can determine a palette for a room by assessing the context in which a makeover or renovation occurs, and how to identify the mood or theme. Additionly, she will review the emotional responses to specific colors, how color can improve a room, how to incorporate color trends in your designs, and how different kinds of light influence the way a color is perceived. In short, you will leave with failsafe advice on creating color schemes that work.
Eckstut will sign copies of her books immediately following the seminar. Admission is $10 for Mart members and $15 for non-members. Reservations are required; your check or credit card guarantees your spot. To RSVP, call 415-437-7100 or e-mail seminars@sfmart.com.
Joann Eckstut provides color and materials consultation and interior design for a wide range of architectural projects, from private residences to large-scale urban environments. She began her career as a painter, studying with Milton Resnick at Columbia University, and today she is one of 12 designers chosen by the Color Association of the U.S. to create the yearly Interior/Environmental forecast. She is principal of her own interior design firm, The Roomworks, in Manhattan and is an adjunct professor of interior design at the Pratt Institute. Her work has been featured in Metropolitan Home, New York Times, House Beautiful and New York Magazine. She is author of two books, including the recently released The Color Palette Primer.
