WithIt Holds Biannual Mentoring Day In High Point

Women in the Home Industries Today (WithIt) held its biannual Mentoring Day at High Point Market on Friday, October 20, for students and faculty of home furnishings and design-related fields.
WithIt members and other industry professionals served as volunteer guides for 128 visitors, each taking groups along for showroom tours and other market highlights throughout the morning.
The event was attended by both students and faculty from the following schools: North Carolina State University, School of Textiles, Raleigh, NC; Eastern Carolina University, Greenville, NC; High Point University, High Point, NC; Kendall College of Art & Design, Grand Rapids, MI; Appalachian State University, Boone, NC; Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, NY; Meredith College, Raleigh, NC; Art Institute of Charlotte, Charlotte, NC; and Savannah College of Art & Design, Savannah, GA.
Kincaid Furniture, a La-Z-Boy company, hosted lunch for the group in their showroom, followed by an educational program. Steven Kincaid, president, and Barbara Jenkins, director of special accounts for Kincaid and a 2006 WithIt board member, kicked off the afternoon event which included a review of the La-Z-Boy internship program by Alex Dyer, vice president of sales for the company, who introduced Todd Warren, a current student intern at Kincaid.
Ed Tashjian, vice president of marketing, Century Furniture Industries, and a former university professor, delivered a lively talk entitled “Post Graduate Life Instruction.”
Jackie Hirschhaut, vice president media relations, American Home Furnishings Alliance, led the faculty tour.
